The technical concept of the R 414 damper was first designed in CAD. Features such as the form and function of the O.D.L. lever were developed in a harmonised process between designer and engineer.Product
Graphic elements and finish were defined and converted into variants as patterns. As a result, the elegant conical outer contour of the R 414 ensures the correct air volume of the positive and negative air chambers. Form and function are one. Development
Parallel to the development of the design many test sessions took place. From the ideal characteristic to the correct click of the rebound wheel, the basic function as well as the small details count for a perfect product. The response has been significantly improved by the new Liné-Air air chamber system with large negative volume and by modifications to the pressure stepped piston.
The rebound unit has also been optimised so that fast, successive shocks are ideally absorbed. Suspension engineer Sam Zbinden works both in the lab and on the trails - which he builds himself and, as a former professional downhiller, knows how to ride quite well! The result is a mature product with DT Swiss's typical light weight and high reliability. The R 414 stands for finest response, good support in the middle spring travel range and a functional final progression.
Since athletes like Nino Schurter are always involved in the product development at DT Swiss, Nino also drove a prototype of the R 414 for testing. Developed as a damper for the somewhat coarser trail laps, racing on Nino's ascetic XC race bike was never planned. But the story was different. Nino was so enthusiastic about the performance that he already screwed the prototype into his bike at the World Cup in Val di Sole and became world champion in Vallnord.
The R 414 is an acronym and stands for fast trail riding. Well, not exactly, but that's what this mute is about. Its elegant conical shape includes a large negative air chamber for the finest response, which is further enhanced by the support of the pressure stage piston. The DT Swiss typical reliability and light weight of the R 414 give you more leeway to try out new lines.
O.D.L allows you to adapt the chassis to any riding situation. The three-step damping adjustment directly on the suspension element or from the handlebar makes the dream of a mountain bike for everything come true.
Dank Smooth Auto Balancing (SAB) DT Swiss dampers have an extremely fine response. At the same time, SAB is extremely light, simple and efficient.
